MIND UR STEP

                                  Mind ur Step

Ten golden Rules for a Young Investor

  • Young Investors who are there in there twenties are in the best position to invest in the equities through mutual fund. The rule of 100 will give the best answers. Basically 100 less your age gives the proportion of investments that can be done into equities and the rest in debt. So if your age is 25 then 75% of your total investment will get into equity and 25% in debt.
  • Maximum proportion of the disposable income should be allocated to the equities. Disposable income is the net pay less fixed expenses like loan payments and household expenses.
  • Investors can follow the systematic investment plan on a monthly basis in diversified mutual funds. This will put a discipline for investors to invest every month. Ideally a fund with the biggest corpus should be chosen. There are some funds that are allowing investors to put money to the extent of rs 50-100 so that all types of investors can enter the fund through the SIP basis. Over the last ten years, the index has returned 13% per annum and against the SIP investment has returned 19% per annum.
  • Young investors are in a position to be very long term investors where they can invest into equity funds and wait for years till returns accumulate. Assuming that the investment begin at the age of,the investors can stay invested for 35 years assuming that he works till 60 and withdraws all his investment at the same time.
  • Young investors in there twenties can take the maximum risks. They can invest into sector specific funds and mid cap funds.
  • Young investors are also in a position to invest into commodities. Commodities faces the longest cycle which are basically in the range of 7- 15 year. The super-cycles in the commodities are in the range of 50-60 years
  • Young investors should not take insurance as a return. The objective of insurance is completely different from equities. Ideally unit linked investments pans should not be considered as objects for maximizing wealth. For that a pure equity related fund is the best tool. The cost for premature withdrawal is very high in the ULIP"S and the investor takes the higher risk of underperformance from the insurer. The surrender value for ULIP's is lower in the initial years of investment.

Create a bootable CD or DVD in case your PC crashes and won't reboot.
This free tool lets you create a bootable emergency disc customized for your PC. Short for Bart's Preinstalled Environment, BartPE copies the Windows files from your hard drive or Windows Installation CD and creates a bootable CD or DVD that you can then use to boot into Windows if your installation of Windows gets trashed. It installs a number of basic drivers, so your mouse, keyboard and many network adapters will work. With a little technical knowledge, you can add other drivers to the bootable CD.

BartPE also comes with a number of useful plugin programs for tasks such as virus scanning and CD burning. The latter feature lets you boot into Windows and copy files to a CD.

According to Richard Baguley, PC World contributor:  "When I tried it on a test system, it worked perfectly, enabling me to boot into Windows from a CD, access my network and copy files. However, it won't help if you haven't built the boot disc before your system fails because the program that builds the bootable CD runs in Windows. The best advice is to run it now before your PC fails and store the disc it builds in a safe place."

Linux's free, open-source answer to Microsoft Outlook comes to Windows at last, in beta form
So far, no single program beats Microsoft Outlook's combination of e-mail features, calendaring, and contacts. But one program, Novell's free, open-source Evolution, comes close.

Though mostly enjoyed by Linux users as part of the Gnome window manager included with many distributions, Novell and some kind-hearted Evolution fans have created a Windows version as well. Though not an Outlook clone, Evolution offers the same general PIM landscape, including mail, contact, calendar, note, and task modules. Features include must-haves like rule-based filtering and spam detection, HTML-format messages, and PGP signing and encryption, and the ability to share calendars with others via the Web.

A low-end photo editing program that is packed with features that rival more expensive products

PhotoPlus 6 is a free program that does a creditable imitation of Photoshop Elements. Along with painting, drawing, and text manipulation tools, there are tools for erasing, filling, and cloning a region.

A Layer Manager lets you work with layers and masks, as you would in Photoshop. Selection tools include a lasso-like Freehand tool. You can adjust the hue and contrast of an image (though you can't experiment with levels and curves, because that option is not available here).

Other features in PhotoPlus 6 are specific to preparing graphics for the Web. The Image Slice and Image Map tools allow you to add hyperlinked hotspots to navigation elements and other online graphics. A PhotoPlus 6.0 companion PDF with instructions and a few tutorials is also available. A tutorial for creating an animated GIF image is included.

red wine

Does red wine protect against heart disease? Maybe. Many studies investigated the benefits of red wine suggested that moderate amount of red wine (one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men) lowers the risk of heart attack for people in middle age by ~ 30 to 50 percent. It is also suggested that alcohol such as red wine may prevent additional heart attacks if you have already suffered from one. Other studies also indicated that red wine can raise HDL cholesterol (the Good cholesterol) and prevent LDL cholesterol (the Bad cholesterol) from forming. Red wine may help prevent blood clots and reduce the blood vessel damage caused by fat deposits. Indeed, studies showed that people from the Mediterranean region who regularly drank red wine have lower risks of heart disease

What's in Red Wine that are good for heart?

Red wine is a particularly rich source of antioxidants flavonoid phenolics, so many studies to uncover a cause for red wine's effects have focused on its phenolic constituents, particularly resveratrol and the flavonoids. Resveratrol, found in grape skins and seeds, increases HDL cholesterol and prevent blood clotting. Flavonoids, on the other hand, exhibit antioxidant properties helping prevent blood clots and plaques formation in arteries.

Should I start drinking more red wine now?

The answer is No. Studies showed that alcohol drinking may increase triglycerides (another Bad blood lipids) and result in weight gain due to its empty calories. Other studies also suggested that alcohol consumption is associated with cancer risk. Read Alcohol and Cancer. The American Heart Association cautions people NOT to start drinking if they do not already drink alcohol. If you already drink alcohol, do so in moderation. AHA recommends one to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women. (A drink is one 12 oz. beer, 4 oz. of wine, 1.5 oz. of 80-proof spirits, or 1 oz. of 100-proof spirits.)

red wine's gud man

A glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away

Is red wine the fountain of youth or a potent poison? Is enjoying a glass of red wine with dinner each evening beneficial to your health? Current research suggests that a glass of red wine each day may be providing you with more than just a little relaxation.

What are the health benefits of drinking red wine?
For over 10 years, research has indicated that moderate intake of alcohol improves cardiovascular health. In fact, in 1992 Harvard researchers included moderate alcohol consumption as one of the "eight proven ways to reduce coronary heart disease risk." However, research has suggested that specifically red wine is the most beneficial to your heart health. The cardioprotective effect has been attributed to antioxidants present in the skin and seeds of red grapes.

Scientists believe the antioxidants, called flavonoids, reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in three ways:

  • * by reducing production of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (also know as the "bad" cholesterol)
  • * by boosting high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the good cholesterol)
  • * by reducing blood clotting. Furthermore, consuming a glass of wine along with a meal may favorably influence your lipid profiles following that meal

Recently, researchers have found that moderate red wine consumption may be beneficial to more than just your heart. One study found that the antioxidant resveratrol, which is prevalent in the skin of red grapes, may inhibit tumor development in some cancers. Another study indicated that resveratrol aided in the formation of nerve cells, which experts believe may be helpful in the treatment of neurological diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Which wines should you consume to reap the most benefits?
Researchers at the University of California, at Davis tested a variety of wines to determine which types have the highest concentrations of flavonoids. Their results concluded that the flavonoid favorite is Cabernet Sauvignon, followed closely by Petit Syrah and Pinot Noir. Both Merlots and red zinfandels have fewer flavonoids than their more potent predecessors. White wine had significantly smaller amounts than the red wine varieties. The bottom line is the sweeter the wine, the fewer the flavonoids. Dryer red wines are your best bet for a flavonoid boost.

How much red wine should I drink?
A four-ounce glass of wine is equivalent to one serving. Men will benefit from consuming one to two servings per day. Women should consume only one serving per day to reap the maximum benefits. This is not to say that you should start drinking alcohol if you presently do not. Occasional or binge drinkers have higher mortality rates than those who drink moderately on a regular basis. In those who consume three or more drinks per day, there is an increased risk for elevated serum triglycerides (fat in the bloodstream). Long-term, excessive alcohol consumption can damage nerve cells, the liver and the pancreas. Heavy drinkers are also at risk for malnutrition, as alcohol may substitute for more nutritious foods.

What if I have other health problems?
Recommendations to consume moderate amounts of wine are limited to individuals with a clean bill of health. It is clear that people with medical and social conditions worsened by alcohol should not consume any alcohol at all. Hypertryglyceridemia, pancreatitis, liver disease, uncontrolled hypertension, depression and congestive heart failure are diseases that may be worsened by alcohol. Those individuals at risk for these conditions should consult with their physician before consuming any alcohol at all.

What about grape juice and non alcoholic red wine?
In 1997, researchers at the University of Wisconsin concluded that purple grape juice also reduced blood clotting. Another study by researchers at University of California at Davis, confirmed the findings that non alcoholic red wine contains the same antioxidant profile as red wine. However in a 1998 study, Japanese researchers found that while grape juice still had antioxidative benefits, it did not significantly lower LDL cholesterol levels compared to red wine.

The debate continues on whether it is the components of the wine, the way the wine is consumed, or the lifestyle traits that is the most responsible for the long healthy lives of many wine drinkers. However, the evidence seems clear that regular, moderate consumption of red wine is beneficial to your health. So here's a toast to your health! Cheers!

CUTE MARRIAGE QUOTES:

Getting married is very much like going to a restaurant with friends. You order what you want, then when you see what the other person has, you wish you had ordered that.

At the cocktail party, one woman said to another, "Aren't you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong finger?" The other replied, "Yes, I am, I married the wrong man."

After a quarrel, a husband said to his wife, "You know, I was a fool when I married you."  She replied, "Yes, dear, but I was in love and didn't notice."

A lady inserted an 'ad' in the classifieds: "Husband wanted."  Next day she received a hundred letters.  They all said the same thing:  "You can have mine."

The bride, upon her engagement, went to her mother and said, "I've found a man just like father!" Her mother replied, "So what do you want from  me, sympathy?"

A little boy asked his father, "Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?"   And the father replied, "I don't know son, I'm still paying."

Young Son: Is it true, Dad, I heard that in some parts of Africa a man doesn't know his wife until he marries her? Dad: That happens in every country, son.

Then there was a man who said, "I never knew what real happiness was until I got married; and then it was too late."

The trouble with being the best man at a wedding is that you never get to prove it.

Marriage is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.  Second marriage is the triumph of hope over experience.

If you want your spouse to listen and pay strict attention to every word you say, talk in your sleep.

Just think, if it weren't for marriage, men would go through life thinking they had no faults at all.

You know the honeymoon is pretty much over when you start to go out with the boys on Wednesday nights, and so does she.

During a heated spat over finances, the husband said, "Well, if you'd learn to cook and were willing to clean this place, we could fire the maid." The wife, fuming, shot back, "Oh yeah???  Well, if you'd learn how to make love, we could fire the chauffeur and the gardener."

Personally, I think one of the greatest things about marriage is that as both husband and father, I can say anything I want to around the house.   Of course, no one pays the least bit of attention.

According to the latest surveys, when making love, most married men fantasize that their wives aren't fantasizing.

Husband: "Want a quickie?"
Wife: "As opposed to what?"

My girlfriend told me I should be more affectionate.  So I got two girlfriends.

How do most men define marriage? An expensive way to get laundry done for free.

The most effective way to remember your wife's birthday is to forget it once.

Words to live by:  Do not argue with a spouse who is packing your parachute.

First guy (proudly): "My wife's an angel!"
Second guy: "You're lucky, mine's still alive."

Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are beautiful.
